Air Quality
The air we breathe is very important, but what is in it and how polluted is it? Thanks to the WeatherDuino Air Quality Monitor, Palmy Weather is pleased to be using this hardware to monitor the air condition at our location, a short distance from the City Centre of Palmerston North.

This system gathers data on Dust Density Particle Matter (PM2.5 and PM10), Carbon Dioxide (CO2 or CO2) information and calculates the Air Quality Index (AQI) based upon this information. Our units of measure include ppm (Parts Per Million) and ug/m3 (micrograms [one-millionth of a gram] per cubic meter air).

There are two different sizes of particles measured, both of which have potential to cause health problems:
*PM10 (particles 10 micrometres or less): these are small enough to pass through the throat and nose and enter the lungs. Once inhaled, these particles can affect the heart, lungs and cause serious health effects.
*PM2.5 (particles 2.5 micrometres or less): these are so small they can get deep into the lungs and into the bloodstream. Being exposed to PM2.5 over long periods (years) can cause adverse health effects.

More information about the air quality scale, causes of poor air quality, health effects and recommended actions can be read in the below table.
