Located on North Range Road which traverses the crest of the Tararua Ranges is a radio repeater station managed by the Manawatū Amateur Radio Society, Branch 20. On this site they have a webcam which provides a view of the ranges and city of Palmerston North.
Amateur (ham) radio is a non-commercial hobby and communication service. Licensed operators use designated radio frequencies to talk locally and globally without using the internet or cell networks. It is vital for emergency response. The central North Island Volcanic Plateau is where these three mountains are located. Only 188km North of Palmerston North, they are within the Manawatū-Wanganui boundary.
